LOCATION

A few meters from Via Partenope, on the most suggestive stretch of Naples coastal road, between Borgo Marinari and Via Santa Lucia, Castel dell’Ovo and Piazza del Plebiscito, Hotel Rex is in a privileged location for a 3-star hotel in Naples: in a very beautiful central area, which in the daytime is very well served by trams and buses that go to the main museums and landmarks, whereas at nighttime gets very lively due to the many popular restaurants and spots found around here. From here starts Via Caracciolo, the great panoramic road that goes up to Mergellina and the Posillipo hill where one can enjoy the beautiful landscape of the whole Gulf of Naples.
The area surrounding Hotel Rex has that special Neapolitan lively atmosphere, characterized also by a certain elegance and popular tradition, and by art and history making Naples one of the most fascinating cities in Italy.

The hotel is located in Santa Lucia, the ancient fisherman district that during the 19th and the 20th century became the place of tourism for the elite, with grand hotels in Liberty style, prestigious restaurants and romantic strolls. One of the most suggestive is Castel dell’Ovo, at 5 minutes walking distance from Hotel Rex, on the small island of Megaride, a very ancient fortress of impressive size and a landmark of the coastal landscape, offering views over the Gulf that are truly breathtaking. As soon as you are outside the walls, you will find the picturesque Borgo Marinari, which once was home to fishermen as well as the place of their fishing activity, and the small port that now holds the yacht club and private boats, with cafes, pizzerias, and historical restaurants. You must have na tazzulella 'e cafè (dialect for "a cup of coffee"), try a true Neapolitan pizza, and taste the delicious fish specialties. In the background, looking inland, you will admire Fontana dell’Immacolatella, a jewel of 17th century sculpture, a landmark found in one of the most beautiful spots in Naples.

From Hotel Rex, a 5-minute walk will get you to one of the most panoramic historical site of Naples: the Piazza del Plebiscito is huge, on one side there is the very impressive colonnade of the Basilica di San Francesco da Paola which was inspired by the Pantheon, and on the other side the Palazzo Reale. This was the residence of the noble families that ruled the Kingdom of Naples from the 17th to the 20th century (the Spanish and Austrian viceroys, then the Bourbons and finally the Savoy) who transformed it into a splendid residence which nowadays can be visited thanks to the Palazzo Reale Museum.

Going by the Palace, along Via Ammiraglio Acton, there is yet another spectacular building waiting for you: the Maschio Angioino with the imposing towers framing a very unexpected and delicate portal made of Istria white stone, a pearl of Italian Renaissance.
From here on it is a succession of gardens, monuments, churches, streets and buildings in a true jubilation of art, history and Neapolitan spirit making the city unique: the San Carlo Theater, the biggest one in Italy, Piazza Trento and Trieste with the historic Caffè Gambrinus, the Galleria Umberto I, a beautiful and elegant meeting place in Naples, Via Toledo, one of the oldest streets of the city and a very delightful pedestrian walk among noble palaces, boutiques, cafes and much more.
